Frequently Asked Questions

What will the service cost in terms of set up and transaction fees?

Due to the complex nature of the service, there is a set up fee and a transaction fee on sale for sellers.  There is no fee for buyers.

One-time set up fee for Australian sellers to accept Alipay:  AUD 200 + GST = $220.00.

You also need to upgrade to an eBusiness account.  In Australia this account is charged $30 + GST every month.

Transaction Fees:  6.5% of payment value + AUD 0.50 per payment.  E.g. if you receive a $100 payment, we will charge $7.00 as the transaction fee, deducted from the payment amout before it is credited to your registered Australian bank account.

How do I use the service on my website?

You must register with Paymate and apply for the China Payment Service by emailing This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .  Approved sellers will be enabled to accept payments via Alipay. To assess your application, we will need:

  • Details of the company (form will be provided;
  • What products you wish to sell (we do not accept categories that may be regulated and subject to restrictions in China);
  • Whether the products are manufactured by your company or others (if so, how sourced);
  • Your company's track record in this category and in selling into China;
  • Estimated average value per sale and monthly sales volume;
  • The website you will sell from and whether in English or Mandarin;
  • Terms and conditions of sale;
  • Shipping and tracking arrangements.

Since selling into China can be challenging without language capabilities, we also recommend you consider Chinese-speaking client service should you plan a significant sales drive.

Once approved, simply follow the instructions to place a Paymate logo on your website and integrate our service with your shopping cart.  You will see the Alipay logo display on the Paymate Express Payment page.

Are there any restrictions on products and services that can be exported to China?

Please note that due to restrictions on imports by the Chinese government, there are many legal requirements that must be followed by exporters - it is your responsibility to meet these requirements and Paymate cannot bear any liability for these constraints.

You will need to investigate any restrictions on exporting your products to China.  The best source for this information is Austrade, see: www.austrade.gov.au. You should also check your products are not in our Unacceptable Categories list.
