Paymate Launches China Mall for Australian Merchants
Sydney, Australia and Hangzhou, PRC – 11 June 2008
Paymate (www.paymate.com), an innovative Australian provider of Internet payment services, today announced the launch of a Chinese/English language mall, “Haiwaibao.com” that will enable Australian merchants to showcase products for sale to the booming Chinese market.
In February this year, Paymate had announced a collaboration with Alipay, China’s largest online payment service. The companies have integrated payment services to enable millions of Chinese consumers to purchase goods and services online from Australian websites.
“Haiwaibao” (meaning “foreign treasure”) takes the partnership significantly further by removing the language barriers for ecommerce with China. Australian merchants can easily publish product images and descriptions in English, with the Paymate service translating these into simplified Mandarin. Chinese buyers can view the mall in Chinese while Australian merchants (and other overseas buyers) can view the contents in English.
Dilip Rao, Managing Director for Paymate commented, “This is another Australian-first for Paymate. At a time when the Australian economy might soften, we have opened up a significantly larger potential market in China for Australian businesses. With listing fees starting at a low $49.95 per month, this is a no-brainer for any Australian business wanting to export to one of the world’s fastest growing economies.”
Alipay is the largest online payment service provider in China with over 80 million registered users and is a subsidiary of the listed Alibaba Group. Alipay will direct their clients to Haiwaibao, creating enormous potential for sales to passionate online shoppers in China. Alipay has co-hosted the launch of Haiwaibao by Paymate in Hangzhou, China with support from the Shanghai office of Austrade. Peter Osborne, National Manager Investment for the Australian Trade Commission (Austrade), said “China is now Australia’s largest trading partner and is increasingly becoming an important a strategic market for Australian enterprises looking to grow their international business. Austrade welcomes the launch of this new trading platform that will help Australian businesses attract Chinese customers and particularly one that utilizes innovative Australian technology to provide a secure and dependable environment to undertake export transactions.”
