Alipay is now the leading payments company with 97 million registered clients and services Taobao, Alibaba and Yahoo China. Mr Jack Ma, Chairman of the Alibaba Group and the legendary ecommerce entrepreneur in China, spoke warmly of the relationship with Paymate and expressed his support for Haiwaibao, a unique shopping mall for Chinese consumers to purchase quality Australian products. Mr Ming Zhen, Executive Vice President, Alibaba Group Strategy presented details of the agreement with Paymate and Mr Xiaofeng Shao, President of Alipay was also present. Dilip Rao, Managing Director for Paymate commented, “It is an honour to be in the company of a visionary like Mr Ma and even more to present our credentials to His Excellency the Governor-General. Our discussions with Alipay have shown we can play a role in their strategy for global growth – bringing the world to China.” In June this year, Paymate announced the launch of a Chinese/English language mall, “Haiwaibao.com” that enables Australian merchants to showcase products for sale to the booming Chinese market. “Haiwaibao” (meaning “foreign treasure”) takes the partnership significantly further by removing the language barriers for ecommerce with China. Australian merchants can easily publish product images and descriptions in English, with the Paymate service translating these into simplified Mandarin. Chinese buyers can view the mall in Chinese while Australian merchants (and other overseas buyers) can view the contents in English. Mr Christopher Wright, Deputy Consul and Country Manager China for the Australian Trade Commission (Austrade), said “China is Australia’s largest trading partner and an important and strategic market for Australian enterprises looking to grow their international business. Paymate’s collaboration with the market leader for ecommerce in China on Haiwaibao provides a secure and dependable platform to undertake export transactions.” See picture. |
